Why does Installation of Measurement Studio slow down Visual Studio 2008?

After installation of Measurement Studio 2010 (for evaluation), Visual Studio 2008 slows down to the point where it is not usable.  It takes 15-30 seconds to do anything.  I am running Microsoft Vista, Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 (Service Pack 1) and .NET 3.5 SP1.  Prior to installation, VS2008 ran fine.  I uninstalled Measurement Studio and VS2008 ran fast again.  Reinstallation of Measurement Studio results in the slowness again.  This happens whether I am actively working with a Measurement Studio-related project or any other project.

It turns out that my system contained an environment variable for a license manager for a completely unrelated product that had been uninstalled.  The NI License Manager utility showed that it was trying to peg that server.  Removing that environment variable fixed the problem and Visual Studio runs as expected.

Can you pls give further details of how you fixed this?

And what environment variable is it exactly?

Hi Venkata,

If you have installed a version of Measurement Studio the is compatible with your Visual Studio software, try restarting you computer. Visual Studio ran slowly for me as well after installing Measurement Studio, but restarting my computer resolved the issue.

Venkat,

Is all of Visual Studio slowing down, or only when you use Measurement Studio functionality? Every time you try to access the Measurement Studio menu or try to use Measurement Studio functions/controls, the NI License Manager makes sure that you have a license for Measurement Studio. Check that Measurement Studio is fully activated in the NI License Manager. How is Measurement Studio licensed (single seat, volume license, etc)?

Alexandra,

Yes Visual studio as a whole is down.

The license seems to be expired(Enterprise edition) and unactivated (Professional edition).

I am trying to downlad Measurement studio and use it for evalulation purpose only.

Could i get hold of a evaluation license?

But this issue with MStudio was from the beginning.(download & instal)

Thanks,

Venkat

Hi Venkat,

The slowdown you are experiencing in Visual Studio may be linked to your Anti Virus software. Measurement Studio dynamically creates a lot of files at runtime and causes most Anti Virus software kick in while those file are being created. You may want to try disabling your Anti Virus if you have one enabled. As for the evaluation file, did you get an evaluation period when you installed Measurement Studio originally? Typically to get an additional evaluation period you will need to call in and talk with your account representative. If you do not know your account representative you can call our main line 1 (800) 433-3488 and we should be able to direct you to the correct place.

Hi bmdresodyn,

This is a very old post, and it's unlikely you'll get an answer to your question.  It would be best to open a new thread on the topic you'd like to ask about, and give all the details so that other users can assist.
