Mounting a quadrature encoder to a NEMA23 single shaft motor (both from NI)

Solved!
Go to solution

If I have a NEMA 23 stepper motor (part# T22NRLG-LNN-NS-00) and a quadrature encoder (part# 15T-01SA-1000-N5RHV-F00-CE) is it possible to connect the two? I am asking b/c the motor drawing is unclear but it looks like I would need a DUAL shaft motor to mount the encoder and because the single shaft motor has no mounting holes on its face. Please help me if you can, thanks

Hi cforem5,

Unfortunately, you will very likely need to have the dual shaft motor to attach the encoder. This is indicated in the Stepper Motor and Encoder Specifications sheet.

Theoretically, you could rig up the encoder to the shaft of the single shaft motor, but it would not leave sufficient room to connect anything else to the shaft. If at all possible, it would be best to track down a dual shaft motor.

I hope that information is useful!
