NI Motion - Cam Grinding Machine

We have designed a CAM GRINDING MACHINE with NI MOTION controller 7344, which controls 3 servo motor for each axis. In that 2 interpolated axis are X and C (1.Grinding wheel forward/ Reverse movement and 2. Head stock Revolution). Grinding can be done by giving Speed data and profile data as velocity and displacement to the X and C axis through the controller.

In that X axis carries the grinding wheel of diameter of 300mm. The design data of the cam is Lift in mm for 0 to 359 degrees. Lift given is displacement of the Flat follower.

We have to get the profile within the tolerance allowable. But we unable to get profile because the Lift data is being given to the controller is the displacement of the Flat Follower and we are giving the same lift data to the X axis (which carries the grinding wheel).

All I want to know is how to convert the lift data in to the data for the X axis considering the 300mm wheel diameter and also the wheel diameter will be reduced due to the dressing (up to few microns to 1mm). Will the dressing also affect the Cam profile? Please help me to convert the data.

sridar.m,

I'm sorry, but without actually seeing how the machine looks like, it's a bit hard for me to understand exactly what you are looking for. It would help a lot if you could provide a schematic drawing of the machine (at least of the parts that are needed for the calculation).

Thanks,
