Polytec OFV 2700 Ultrasonics Vibrometer controller

Hello,

Any ideas on which NI digital acquisition card/USB will work with a laser vibrometer, Polytec GmbH OFV 302 Sensor Head controlled by a POLYTEC OFV 2700 ULTRASONICS VIBROMETER CONTROLLER?

Best regards,

Julius

Hi Julius,

as much as I know, Polytec Vibrometers provide simple voltage outputs, so you could select from a wide range of NI USB data acquisition hardware. These devices differ in ADC resolution, accuracy, acquisition rates and so on. If you need more help, please provide some specifics of your requirements.

Thanks,

Jochen

Hi Jochen,

Thanks very much form your cooperation. I can't get the data sheet for the OFV 2700 ultrasonics vibrometer.

But here is a  SONIX STR100 card specifications that operates the vibrometer now in MS DOS system.

Trigger: · Sources; software, external TTL, 256 level digital threshold

             · Modes ; normal, pre-trigger-delay from 0-262K samples

Memory Buffers · 64K high static RAM

                         · Segmentable in 4byte increment

                         · Addressable at 16K boundaries through a 16K window in user memory

                         · Analog DC-50 MHz bandwidth, -3dB

                         · .125 to 2V input range, software selecatable

 A/D conversion · 100 MHz base rate

                         · 8 bit flash converter

                         · 200, 400 and 800 MHz equivalent time sampling

Features · Installs in XT or AT type slot

              · 8 bit or 16 bit data transfer

              · Interrupt on acquisition complete

              · Trigger input/output connector

Software · Each board comes complete with a two channel, real time digital oscilloscope program

             · C callable assembly language drivers, source code for easy modification to other high level language calling protocols and sample programs

             · Optional Digiscope, Spectrum analyzer and Data acquisition programs are also available

Hope this may be helpful to identify an NI card or USB.

Thanks,

Julius

Hi Jochen,

Below is a link to the card that is working with the vibrometer.

Hi Julius,

to select a fitting product, there are two different approaches. Either you select a product, that replaces the existing board by matching the specs of the existing board as closely as possible, or you look at the requirements of your application and find the best fit to meet these specs. I could imagine the existing board is a bit oversized in terms of sampling rate and undersized in terms of accuracy.

Another requirement could be a different approach for the data transfer. The existing board has a quite low amount of onboard RAM, so if you sample with 100 MHz, you can see only a very short part of the signal. It might be desireable to transfer all data continuously until you stop the acquisition, but this depends on your requirements.

If you just want to replace the existing board, you could purchase a USB-5133, but if you can describe your application requirements a bit more in detail, I could probably recommend a solution that does not necessarily differ so much in price, but that would be a better fit for your real requirements. Especially it would be interesting to get the specs of your signal's bandwidth.

Regards,

Jochen
