Softmotion Program Running but Motors not moving

I am working on a multi axis stepper motor program that if I were to look only at the program is working however the program thinks the motors are moving (updates position) but the motors do not actually move. the program successfully enables the axis and everything but will not actually move the motors. I can switch to a single axis program and without changing the hardware setup get the motors to move so I am confident it is not the hardware. when I go into the imbedded test panel on the multi axis project I get a mixture of Error code 6283 and -70229 however these do not show up in the program itself.

I am running a cRIO 9035 with at this time 4 NI 9503 stepper drive modules in it attached to the modules are Applied Motion HT23-601D stepper motors.

I stuck a bunch of probes into both the control VI and the FPGA VI and a large number of them (all the FPGA Probes) are coming back as unexecuted, this is to include points that should be reading as numbers or I/O names.

Hi LawrenceD,

I assume that you are receiving error 6283 and -70229 in the axis interactive test panel and cannot test the motors using the test panel. The errors refer to the following:

6283 - user defined variable axis operation has timed out

-70229 - function call made to motion controller timed out waiting for a response on an executed command

I would check out the help document for working with user definted variable axes

I did get those two errors off of the interactive test panel however I am unable to run the motors in either the test panel or the actual program and in both cases the software updates the position as if the motor was moving. I added an indicator for steps generated on one of the axis to see what it was reading and for some reason it was reading the same as the position even though with the way I have the motors configured I should be getting 12,800 steps per 1 revolution.

Hello LawrenceD,

I'm also running a cRION 9035 with 1 NI 9503, I had a problem on installation and connection with computer. So at first time, the LED indicators always showed DISABLE, so I tried to use the methode Enable with Labview, it needs a software 64bits to compile but my system was 32bits, so there was an error and then none of LEDS illuminate. Have you ever met such a proble? Would you help me please?

Thank you !

I have not run into that sort of problem and do not know what could be the cause. your best bet would be to start a topic on the forum and see what comes up from other people.

I'm having the same problem as you, have you succeeded in making your motors move ?

Thanks,

Margaux

Hi Marguax,

Are you receiving Error 6283, Error -70229, or both? Can you get the motors to move using the Stepper Drive (NI 9503) sample project (specifying type Position Profile Multi Axis) that come with the more recent versions of SoftMotion?

Also, do you have the same software/hardware setup as the OP? If not, since this thread looks to be from over a year ago, I recommend creating a new forum post and elaborating upon the information you provided here so that it can receive increased visibility from our NI community.

Hi Mike,

Most of the time I had error -70229 and when I reformated the cRIO I had the 6283.

I'm in touch with the support to see what's wrong with my system.

Hi Margaux,

Talking with support is a good move, as it will help get an additional perspective on the troubleshooting.

It would also help to clarify whether you use the same hardware as the OP.  Any additional information you can provide about your setup will help provide insight into a possible solution.
