Why PCI-FlexMotion Board don't show up?

Hi,

I have FlexMotion Board installed on my PC. I have Windows NT, LabVIEW 7.1 and NI-Motion 6.1.5. I am beginner with these things and I don't understand why FlexMotion Board don't listed in MAX.
I have also PCI-1407 Board and it's working properly.
How can I resolve this problem?

Thanks.

NI-Motion 6.1.5 only supports the new 73xx series motion control boards. The PCI-FlexMotion-6C is obsolete but you still should be able to use it in your setup with the FlexMotion 5.1.1 driver software.
You also should install the 5.1.1f5 patch.

Please make sure that you uninstall NI-Motion 6.1.5 before you reinstall the old driver.

Best regards,

Thank you for your help. I uninstalled NI-Motion 6.1.5 and then I installed FlexMotion 5.1.1 driver software and 5.1.1f5 patch. But the problem didn't resolved. Is something else what I have to do?

Windows NT was not very forgiving when mistakes are done during hardware installations. If hardware is installed into a Windows NT system that doesn't have the appropriate driver already installed sometimes it's very difficult to convince it to detect the hardware.
Here are some things you could try:

1. In NI-MAX press the F5 button to refresh the view. Maybe you can see the board now.
2. Dismantle the board and boot the PC without it. Then reinstall it into the PC. Open MAX and press F5.
3. Uninstall the driver, dismantle the board, boot the PC, reinstall the driver, reinstall the board, open MAX and press F5.
4. If these measures don't help the best solution might be to reinstall the OS (board needs to be dismantled), reinstall the driver and reinstall the board. If you have a (ghost) image of your drive this could be done within 30 minutes.

I hope this helps,

Jochen

Suggestion: When you pull the PCI board out, put it back in a different slot. Windows will normally see this as a new board and will go through the process of adding it.

Thank you. I installed the OS (2000) and now the board is working.

Hi there,

Does anybody know where I can find NI-Motion 5.1.1f5 for an old Flexmotion-6C PCI? Too bad bad that none of the newer versions doesn't support it...

Thank you!

Hi Paul,

Thank you! Installation worked like a charm, no lemons or other "hey" signs, both in WinXP and Windows7 (dual boot computer).

Now, I know I'm new, but can I use this card as a DAQ card? Is there a link somewhere with DAQmx? Those 6 DACs 16 bits look so good...

For example, I want to generate a precision sinusoidal/square signal to analize it further with PCI-6220, can I?

Best regards!

Hi zbo,

Unfortunately, you can't use the motion board as a daq card. You can use an unmapped DAC on the motion board to generate a signal, but it will be software timed. I don't think you could generate a square wave at any reasonable frequency. You might be able to generate a low frequency sine wave (< 50Hz), but it will be subject to the jitter of your PC. In the newer NI Motion drivers there is a Load DAC.flx VI that you can use to load the DAC in software. There is probably something similar in NI Motion 5.1 if you want to try to use the DAC.

In short, DAQmx will not work with the motion card and you shouldn't use the motion card to substituate as a DAQ board. You can certainly try it for yourself, though.

Thanks,
