following error goes to 32767 before motion is even commanded!

Well that was the standard setting on the stepper drive cards in the Primatics drive - but that WAS the problem.

I set the micro-steps as close as possible to the encoder steps and now it is all working properly.

I should have thought of that earlier - but at least I know I can wire things correctly 😉  Thanks for paying attention to this thread as I worked through it.

Of course I spoke too soon.

When I first changed the drive to 5,000 steps/rev to match the encoder steps and then ran the stage it worked.  Following error was below 100.

Shut things down change the rest of the drives - open MAX back up - following error is through the roof again!

Well I don't know why it worked the first time - but I double checked the encoder directions in MAX in open loop and they were opposite - so reversing A&B did the trick.  Now to shut down and restart everything to see if it sticks....  here's hoping.
