What type of laser shutter is it (make/model). What input signal does it need to actuate? What motion controller do you have connected to the 7602?

Some motion control cards have general purpose digital I/O pins that can be set to output TTL compatible signals that might be used to control your laser shutter.

In any case, if the laser presents a safety hazard to personnell, you should add a hardwired E-STOP button to close the shutter in case of emergency (and to disable motion too)

Thank you so much for your response.

We purchased the MID 7602 to upgrade our existing laser system. The
old system has an Asymtek Easy-Move controller that has discrete 5VDC Auxiliary
outputs that we use to open and close the shutter and turn off and on the
"Q" switch by toggling off and on these auxiliary outputs. I am trying to
figure out how to do this with the MID 7602 motor drive. Are there any outputs or
relay switches that we can accomplish this task with the MID 7602. If so
how do you suggest that we do this. We need the ability to turn these devices off
and on manually and through the software. We are driving the MDI 7602 with PCI
7342.

The 7342 motion controller has a 2nd 68pin connector that has 32 general purpose digital I/O's on it, TTL compatible, up to 24mA sink/source.

You would probably need the 68 pin mating cable for it and some type of 68 terminal breakout card with terminal blocks to connect your wiring to for your external devices.

There are more details in the manual here:
https://www.ni.com/docs/en-US/bundle/373454a/resource/373454a.pdf

I never have used an NI motoin controller, not sure how the hardware/software is set up to access and control or read the digital I/O pins.

Now that we know what controller card you have, maybe someone from NI can suggest the specific cable and breakout card part numbers and how to access the I/O.

What software and version numbers do you have (programming envirnmont, motion control software, DAQ and MAX)?

Hi,

The MID 7602 gives you access to any of the signals from the Motion IO connector of your motion controller.  It sounds like for your application you will need to access the Digital IO connector from your motion controller.  Like AnalogKid2DigitalMan mentioned the second 68 pin connector has Digital IO lines, to access them you will need a 68 pin break out box, like the SCB 68

I hope this helps.

Have a great day.

GG
