10 V Instrument hooked to 8234

We have a Kistler Charge Amplifier which puts out +- 10V hooked to a 9234.(only _-5V). I was told what would happen would be just clipping at 5V.

This seems not to be the case. When th 9234 is fed to ME Scope, and I convert there Volts to Units, I get the equivalent of 50 V registered. No sign of the clipping, signal seems to behave like everything is fine, What is this digitizer doing? ME Scope just gets a voltage valune, it should reach a max of +-5V, certainly not 30V! Any idea what is happening.

Personally, I would never connect a sensor capable of +/-10V to a +/-5V capable instrument unless I am 110% sure that it will never exceed +/-5V.

Few questions,

  • Where did you get the info about the clipping or clamping behaviour?
  • What is a ME scope?
  • Could you please share the sensor model, any additional details about your code module or VI implementation settings, scope capture etc.,
  • Please share some sampled data using 9234 for analysis

What I read from the datasheet is that the overvoltage protection kicks in only at 30V and not at 5V
