Hi hallo
i am new to counters and 6210
I have problems to understand how to read and wire counter and see the counter value.
set up
1 bike wheel with let say 20 spokes'
1 6210
1 sick light sensor (for seeing the spoke)
now i want to count evry count value on let say 20 mhz pulse train
each time the spoke's pass the light sensor give's a pulse
Now how wire the sensor so i and meaby other things that have to be wired ?
how do i see the counter value on the puls train?
this on test panel on DAQMX

Hi Cees,
To wire your device, I would recommend taking a look at the device pinouts. This can be done by right-clicking on your device in Measurement and Automation Explorer and choosing "Device Pinouts"- this will tell you what pins the counters on your device are. Since you're using a test panel, you should be able to go to the Counter I/O tab and change the mode to Edge Counting. I've attached a screenshot on how you could set that up with a test panel, assuming that you were wired to Counter 0 through PFI1.
To do this in LabVIEW, you could use an example like " Count Digital Events.vi" found in the Example Finder under Hardware Input and Output»DAQmx »Counter Measurements»Count Digital Events. Let me know if you have further questions about that. Have a good one!

well this parts is easy i already done that ,and i see a counter value evry time a spoke passes
but i want to see the counter data of the value with the sample clock let say the 20mhz clock
how can i see that? in measurement and automation explorer?
so each count with the values of that sample clock

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're looking for, are you wanting to show the value of the counter (being read from the spokes), next to the value of the sample clock? There's not a way to do that in MAX, but if I'm understanding you correctly, I can look into how you might go about doing that in LabVIEW. Thanks in advance for the additional clarification!

Yes that what i want,
Well i want to see that hardware is function correctly ,i want to rule out any software first.
So why is it not possible to let the sample clock stop and restart after evry spoke passage , so i see the exact duration of the passage?
with out any software programming

Hi Cees,
I think what you're looking for is a period measurement. This is going to measure the internal timebase between your counter input pulses. You can perform this in MAX by right clicking on your 6210, choosing to Create Task» Acquire Signals»Counter Input»Period. You can run this task from within MAX with out doing any software programming. For more information on period measurements, here is a tutorial that explains them. Otherwise, if you have more questions about this, or if I'm still not understanding exactly what you're wanting, please let me know. Thanks!

Yes this is what i want
Buffered Period Measurement
only it does not function with me

Can you please explain what you mean when you say that it doesn't function with you? Are you getting a particular error? Are you just not seeing the results you were expecting? How is your task setup? Thanks!

Ok i understand,
i do not get a single pulse measurement and no buffered pulse measurement atomation explorer
the pulse train keeps running
I only get the edge count (as pic the gate ) and not the pulse value as explained
so i get as pic below value 2 and not 5 he count the gate and not the source pulse value
once i select 80mhz pulse train i get the pulse train but it does not stop or give a value at the gate
Buffered Period Measurement
so meaby i have to put the wire's at some place
???????????? to get this thing to do what he must do

Well a explanation
system laptop with windows 7 starter signal express 2009
task setup
counter width
no value nothing to see in data window ,when i drag the task to data window
Nothing appears
