68 to 50 Pin adapters in M series and E series

I need to adapt NI PCI – 6220 (M-Series) to connect a 50 pin DIN board.

There are some solutions from NI to adapt 68 pin to 50 pin:

·        Shielded cable – SH6850 (mentioned for E-series)

·        Ribbon cable – R6850 (mentioned for E an S series)

·        Adapter 68M - 50F (mentioned for M-series)

I’ve been reading about these options listed above and found that cable R6850 is composed by a standard 50-pin ribbon cable that has female connectors on both ends and an 68F-50M adapter witch use the same pinout that 68M-50F adapter. Cable SH6850 use the same pinout that R6850 use and Morgan’s Law says that SH6850 use the same pinout of adapter 68M-50F witch is named to use with PCI 6220.

I’ve read some post’s that say that SH6850 and R6850 aren’t compatible with M series, and I still don’t understand why, because it seems that the hardware connections are the same.

So it remains the doubt… Witch of these accessories can I use to connect PCI – 6220 to a 50pin DIN board?

Hi Ricardo Heleno,

As said in this forum, you will not be able to connect a M series board like PCI 6220 with SH68-50 cable. Here is the picture of the accessories available with the PCI 6220 (M series) device.

The difference between connectors are typically physical.

Hope this helps.
Regards,

The answer to the "why" part of your question is that while E series and M series both have 68-pin connectors, they're not the same type of connector. Smaller connectors were used on M series to achieve higher density.
