Advice for buying a DAQ

Hi there! as always thanks for taking your time reading the post. I write this post now because i need some advice buying a daq. I need a daq for controlling at least six differents relays with 250VAC and 2A or 3A. I need a daq too that at least let me program the outs, i mean, now i have a usb 6008 that always activate with 5V in the digital pins. Any model from ni or other mark? I need it to be of course LabView compatible. Thanks again in advance!

For the relays, use a one slot compactdaq with DO or AO that control smaller relays that would control a 250Vac supply, which in turns control the 6 different relays.

For programming the output, I believe you need a analog output.  Did you mean you wanted to program the voltage level?  You can use a compact daq with an AO module.

You'll need some signal conditioning from the DAQ.

The 6008 will do what you want it to.  Use relay drivers or an inverter to condition the signal, then feed that into a solid-state relay.

MC10H189 is a hex inverter with an enable line, run the digital outs into the inputs of the inverter, then an analog output to the enable.  The AO on teh 6008 initializes to 1v, write a 5v to the analog output to "enable" the outputs of the inverter.  High on the digital output = low on the inverter.

Do a little safety engineering in the system so that that if/when the computer reboots or the DAQ is initialized, it doesn't put the outputs in an unsafe state.  Some DAQs have programmable power-up states, the 6008 is not one of them so you'll need to implement the solution in external hardware.

Thanks you both, that's my problem, i can't use external hardware so i thinked in a solution of buying another daq. I have tested a usb 6008 with an inverter ( normal one 7404 ) and 5 optocouplers interface to relays, but i need to reduce the system, for example not using some external hardware. Any solution here or the cost will be a lot more expensive than using yours ?

I think you're going to be stuck using *some* external hardware... if it's a matter of design capabilities or just purchasing an "off-the-shelf package", might look to one of the NI Partners that specialize in designing test equipment.

Of course, all of this comes at an expense....

Hi, roundish,

I don't know what you mean by "using external hardware". Do you refer to third party hardware (not NI's) or hardware located outside the PC box? In any case, you need too use hardware so as to develop the application you describe. You can use the E series 6008 but I would recommend a powerful and newer DAQ card. For instance, M series or X series boards. Have a look into the followings links: https://www.ni.com/en-us/shop/category/multifunction-io.html

There you can find boards which have several standard buses, such as USB, PCI, PCIe, PXI, PXIs and different performances to adapt it to your budget and technical requirements.

So, I recommend you to phone us so as to get information about it from our TSEs (Technical Sales Engineer). They will adapt the solution to your requirements and budget. If you are spanish or living in Spain, please phone them at 91 640 00 85.

Suerte con ello!

Jesús.

No extra hardware? Well at least you need some clamps for your ac line protected in a housing right? I haven't seen a ready NI housing with AC line cable connectors including strain relief, double isolation etc that could be 'released into the wild'  (exept maybe VXI/PXI MUX connector boxes...)

The NI9481 will give you 4 channel 230VAC 2A relays , but for savety reasons it would probably need additional housing in a cabinet, in addition  another modul and a 4 slot NI-DAQ.

Or you can use your 6008 and 6 DIN rail blocks SSRs (like phoenix contact 2954219 EMG 17-OV- 5DC/240AC/3) and mount all this again in a housing to get the same.

Hi all and thanks for everything. I will discuss this tomorrow, and will see the best option we have. Again, thanks to all and best wishes.
