Hi David,
When you are using a PCI-6528 you can only do your measurements as software timed. Essentially you will be limited to how slowly your program operates to make the finite pulse train. Since you are limited to software speeds, you will probably find that this board is not really an ideal solution for that issue.
If you really do want to try to make a software pulse train then you will want to do it like this:
Keep in mind that if you do this, then you are going to subject to lots of software jitter (ie Windows decides it wants to update in the middle of an operation). Even in a best-case scenario you are unlikely to get update rates of more than a few hundred Hz.
If you need to produce finite pulse trains, then you should take a look at the PCI-6624 as it is made specifically for what you are looking to do with high voltage finite pulse trains (or other counter operations).
