We have recently been trying to move to the newest version of Labview (8.6 from 7) and have encountered a problem. We are running a Shuttle XPc, AMD Athlon processor with Win XP and an NI PCI 6220 DAQ board. Running with version 8.5 of DAQmx, we were unable to see our DAQ card in the newest version of Labview, so we tried to upgrade to ver 8.8 of DAQmx. However, although the installation proceeds without error, upon restart, the computer is unable to boot, just keeps restarting. We have tried reformatting the computer and removing all but the basic drivers but have been unable to locate the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks, Giles

Hi Giles,
Before the problem can be diagnosed it would be usefull to have a little more information about what is causing the computer to crash. Are you able to boot into safe mode? If so please could you do so and then prevent the computer from re-starting when it crashes. To do this please follow the steps below.
Right click My Computer and select Properties then select the Advanced tab. From here please click Settings in Startup and Recovery. Please untick Automatic Restart.
Now when you boot the computer as usual instead of restarting when it crashes you should be shown an error. If you could reply to this post with details of the error I will investigate what may be causing it.

Tom

Hi Tom, thanks for picking this up.
Tried safe mode but it still crashes.
When I stopped it at the blue screen I found the following:
...
The problem seems to be caused by the following file: viaagp1.sys
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
...
Technical information
*** STOP: 0x00000050 (0xF77AD404, 0x00000000, 0xF77AD404, 0x00000000)
***viaagp1.sys - Address F77AD404 base at F77A9000, DateStamp 00000000
A quick google told me that viaagp1.sys has caused problems before with NI drivers, however this computer previously worked well with earlier version of DAQmx (8.0, not 8.5 as Isaid in my previous post). I tried uninstalling the "VIA CPU to AGP controller"which is using this, however upon reboot, windows just reinstalled it, so I assume thatlive without it? Old threads relating to this suggest installing minimal NI drivers, however it is not clear to me what I would leave out.
Thanks, Giles

Hi Giles,
It sounds like you might have some bad memory in your PC. I would suggest going to http://www.memtest.org/ and downloading their application to test your RAM.

Hi Giles,
I am still unsure what is causing this problem but it would be usefull to have a little more information about your system. Please could you go to start >> run >> winver and take a screenshot then post that here.
Thanks for your patience.

Tom

Hi Giles,
I have spoken with a colleage about this matter and it appears that the problem is due to your video card. The next step to take now is to disable your video card and see what happens.
If this still doesnt help please could you provide a full Kernel memory dump. Instructions on how to do this are in this KB.

Tom

Hi Tom.
took some time but seem to have solved the problem... disabling the video driver did not work on its own, however I uninstalled AND deleted (to stop it getting automatically reinstalled) viaagp1.sys and then uninstalled and reinstalled all NI software and I am now able to work the hardware and access it using Labview 8.6. Video is not what it was (slow refresh rate which I cannot alter without the driver installed) but at least I can get on with my experiments!
Thanks for your help, suggestions, Giles

Hi Giles,
I have had a look into attempting a workaround but unfortunately it appears that this is not possible. All I can suggest is updating your graphics card drivers or replacing your graphics card.
I'm sorry that this is all I am able to recommend.
