I'm using an NI-9263 and an NI-9219 to monitor and control a press machine. Until recently, I had no trouble controlling both NI from the same computer, but I had to increase the distance between the NI and the computer, so I added a few meters (5-10 meters) USB cable. Normally, both NI-9263 and NI-9219 powered a yellow "Ready" LED and a green "Active" LED, when at work. Due to the increased USB extension, I'm using a self-powered USB hub (it takes power from the building's power grid to power the devices connected, instead of using the computer's available current through the USB port) to connect one of the NI devices, because the computer's available current wasn't enough to power both devices at the same time.
So, before all these changes, the "Active" LED was green, flashing on and off according to data acquisition or generation, while the "Ready" LED was yellow, permanently on. Now, when connected through the USB Hub, the "Ready" LED lights up green.
I understand that the "Ready LED" changes from yellow to green indicating Hi-speed (480 Mbps) or Full-speed (12 Mbps) respectively. I expected the light to change when I incresed the USB cable's length, but it only changes when I connect the NI through the USB Hub. I don't understand why, and can't help the feeling that I'm missing something. The USB Hub is a 2.0 Hi-speed Hub, so it shouldn't be a problem.
