DAQCard 6036E sometimes fails to be detected from within CVI

Hi,

I have a DAQCard 6036E that sometimes appears to fail to be detected from within CVI. For example, if I call Init_DA_Brds() it will not detect the card, and calls to analogue input functions also fail. This does not seem to happen every time I start the machine.

If it does fail, launching MAX normally causes the card to be detected correctly and then I can run my CVI app and everything is OK.

I am running Windows 2000 Pro on a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4360 laptop. I am using CVI 6.0.0 and NI-DAQ 7.1.0f1.

This is a tough one. I'm not completely sure what is going on here. Does Windows 2000 plug-and-play run every time you reboot your computer? I'm wandering if somehow the DAQCard-6036E is being reinstalled everytime you reboot your laptop. Because if it works after opening MAX, that means that the device is not being configured properly on start-up.

I would suggest to uninstall/reinstall NI-DAQ 7.1 with the DAQCard-6036E out of the laptop. This is the only suggestion I have for now.

This problem has existed from the first time I installed a 6036, but I never had a problem with 6062's or 16-XE-50's. The first time I used the 6036 I was running NI-DAQ 6.9.x so I don't think re-installing NI-DAQ will help. I am now using 7.1.

I actually returned my first 6036 as I thought it was DOA, but the replacement was the same so I played around and got it working. Is it possible that the hardware I have attached can cause the card to not startup properly if it loads the card in a certain way?

Hey Jamie,

Are you talking about external hardware connected to the 6036E? I haven't heard of connections to a DAQ device causing configuration problems on boot up.

Does the problem go away if you boot up with nothing connected? Maybe you could try to boot up multiple times with nothing connected to the 6036E and see if the problem persists.

Actually I am pretty sure I have seen this problem without my hardware connected at power-up. I just thought I would ask in case it jogged your memory of any similar problem experienced.
