DAQcard not recognised in MAX after installation in new PC

We have a DAQcard 6062E which has not been used for a few years. Recently I needed to use it again. The laptop on which it had originally been used had been rebuilt in the interval and the NI software had not been re-installed. I re-installed Labview and NI-DAQ. When I inser tht card it is recognised by WIndows and the Device Manager says it is installed and working properly. However, it does not show up in MAX.

Software:

Windows 2000

Labview 5.1.1

NI-DAQ 6.9.3

I have uninstalled all the NI software and re-installed NI-DAQ only: same result.

I have tried it on another laptop under Windows XP: same result.

When I check the driver properties, Windows tells me that no driver files are installed or required for this device.

If I install NI-DAQ 7.4.4 I can see the card in MAX but this version is not compatible with Labview 5.1

The card worked before in this PC with these versions of Ni-DAQ and Labview.

What am I doing wrong?

thanks

Jim

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the post and I hope your well.

I want to share my concern here,

NI-DAQ Driver Support: Portable Devices

http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/6913#pcmcia

Find NI 6062E,

For Windows 2000 = 8.8mx  OR 7.4.4T * The driver which you can see the card

For Windows 95     = 6.9.3T *now this driver Readme does claim to work with 2000, but not on this link.

Was the OS upgraded over the years?

You are also correct, that LabVIEW 5.1 requires 6.9.3.

Hope this helps,

Kind Regards

Thanks James,

I had seen your second link that says 6.9.3 is compatible with Win 2k and XP.

The Windows 2000 installation is kept up to date. Does that mean that because of changes to Windows I can no longer use this combination of hardware and software?

If I use NI-DAQ 7.4.4, which version of Labview do I need to use?

The readme page for 7.4.4

http://ftp.ni.com/support/softlib/multifunction_daq/traditionalnidaq/7.4.4/nidaq_readme_traditional.html

does not say anything about not supporting older versions of Labview.

I also understand that if we upgraded to the latest Labview it would not run the LV 5.1 VIs anyway, so we would need to upgrade to an intermediate version.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for getting back to me and I hope your well. Sorry for the delay - weekend.

I can confirm to use the 6062E under windows 2000 you need to use NI-DAQ 7.4.4 - as you have shown. Even though NI-DAQ 6.9.3 has support for Windows 2000 - this clearly isn't for the 6062E device. Sorry.

To use NI-DAQ 7.4.4 (i.e. you have chosen to keep using the 6062E and Windows 2000), you will require LabVIEW 7.0, 7.1, 8.0, 8.2, 8.5, and 8.6.

(NI-DAQ & labVIEW Version Compatibility)

You have VIs of version 4 or later:If your VI is version 4 or later you can open the "old" VI in any later version of LabVIEW 8.2.x and prior.  To use an "old" VI in LabVIEW 8.5.x it must be at least version 6.  If it is not version 6 or later, you will first need to open it in a version LabVIEW prior to 8.5.x. So you could upgrade to LabVIEW 8.2 and your setup would be fine and you could still use your LabVIEW 5 VIs.

Other than that, you could upgrade the Device your using, but you would receive a lot of benefits from upgrade to a LabVIEW package in the 8.x generation if at all possible.

I hope this helps,

Kind Regards
