Disable all use of port 6001 and 6002

We use the NI APIs to access the USB-6008 and USB-6211 devices from a C program compiled using Microsoft Visual Studio C++ 2005. This is done on a local computer, no remote network operations. We do not use any of NI labview or other user accessable graphical software.

We also use the Safenet software key. This requires the use of port 6001 and 6002. These ports are by default used by some NI services.

What do we need to do to disable all NI services that use port 6001 and 6002? As a minimum it seems tagsrv.exe and lktsrv.exe are using these.

Once we do that will the API access to the two devices still work on the local machine?

I saw a note about these ports causing trouble on bootup (ID 2L7CT85F) and tried the suggestion there but it did not help.

Hello,

I see that you already have tried steps list in KnowledgeBase (KB) 2L7CT85F, however I believe the KB linked below will be more helpful to resolve the port conflicts.  I realize you are not using Labview or any GUI, but that you are using the NI-DAQmx driver, thus this KB should help.

AE KB 481BLOCW: Why does Safenet's Sentinel Protection Service Crash After Installing LabVIEW?

Hi guys,

Sorry to revive a two year old thread, but I'm having this exact issue and apparently don't have permissions to access the KB.  Searching it doesn't turn up any results on the site, so any advice?

I know one option is to regedit so Logos doesn't use ports 6001 and 6002, but I'm not allowed to regedit on my work pc.  Any software fixes I can do?

Hey Jeff-

I don't know much about this subject but happened by your thread anyway.  This KB seems to supersede the one that Samantha linked previously.  If you still have issues after reviewing that info then I'll have to defer to a member of the NI Support staff.

Hopefully this helps-

Hi Tom,

I actually just rebooted from trying that KB, and it solved my issue.

Thanks!

I am also having the same issue.  I cannot install or run my SafeNet drivers while lktsrv is running as a service on my Windows 7 64-bit machine.  SafeNet technical support says that they require port 6001 for their Sentinel products.
Examining the KB document referenced above, it looks like I might have the old Logos service running.

(1) How can I determine if the have the old Logos or new LogosXT service running?  The details of the running service:  "National Instruments Time Synchronization", Version:5.2.0

(2) Does this fix noted (Logos.ini) work with Windows 7 64-bit?

(3) Is there a way to change the ports that lktsrv uses?
Thanks,

Jeff
