Help with NI compatability with Dyno-Max "Pro"

Hello Everyone,

I am a cadet at the Virginia Military Institute and I am working on creating a Pressure/Volume Map of a diesel motor and I am running into some road blocks with the compatability of dynomite's program and the NI board. I have installed the board correctly and I have installed both NI software and Dyno-max pro on the computer. I have hooked up all the instruments and have set up the board correctly. But I am getting an error on the Dyno-max pro program stating that I have a communication error with board 1 e.i. the NI board. Has anyone ever run into this problem and can help me out of it? Hello Joseph,

I am not familiar with Dyno-Max Pro.  Can you post some information on the program you're using and the error you're seeing?

1.  What NI board are you using?

2.  Have you been able to successfully communicate with the board using the Measurement and Automation Explorer?  If the board works in a test panel here then the problem is likely in software.
3.  What driver and version are you using with the board?

4.  What programming language is the Dyno-Max Pro program written in?

5.  What is the exact error code and text you're getting?

6.  Is the error message you're getting a LabVIEW/National Instruments error or a custom error from Dyno-Max Pro?

Knowing these things will help narrow down the issue incase nobody has been in this exact scenario before.

I am sorry for the long reply, I have been working on other projects.

I went through and check and I have the answers to your questions:

1. I am using a board titled PCI-MIO-16E4

2. I have been able to successfully communicate with the board using Measurement and Automation Explorer. I have tested the board, and I have gotten a board tester and successfully create sin waves that appear on the test panel.

3. I am using Measurmentation and Automation Explorer version 4.2.1.3001

4.I do not know what dyno-max is written in.

5.I am not getting an error code or text.

6. the Dynomax "pro" 2000 just tells me "Board #1 error"

This sounds like it is a problem that should be answered by the folks at Dynomax. The board works with MAX. Is the NI board recomended for use with their software and do they specify that a certain version of DAQ software be installed?

yes, the NI board is recommended with the Dynomax Pro. They event sent me it all together in a kit! The instructions have many warning signs on it threatening that they don't give support for this kit, and that only engineers who are familiar with DAQ should use it, and that 99.9% of the problems are with the NI instruments and not their programming.  so in short, the manual say, you're an engineer, figure it out.

Not exactly a company that I would want to deal with.

There are a couple of things you can check. There are in fact, two types of drivers for NI DAQ boards. One is now called traditional DAQ and the current version is called DAQmx. You mention the version of Measurement & Automation Explorer but that is installed with either driver so you need to determine which driver is installed. If the Dynomax software is old, it may be expecting traditional DAQ and you may have installed the current driver. Just the opposite may be happening. You can have both drivers installed and switch between the two of them. You also want to make sure that the device is showing up in MAX as board 1.

Hello Fakstory,

I'm not sure exactly what code you're looking for.  The DYNO-MAX 2000.exe was not developed by National Instruments so we do not have the VI that the executable was built from.  If you are looking for the NI-DAQmx Drivers for your National Instruments hardware then you can download this driver here on the Drivers and Updates page by searching for NI-DAQmx.  If your questions are specific to the DYNO-MAX 2000.exe program then you may want to contact the manufacturer for information on that.
