How do you create a LabVIEW installer with DAQmx runtime 5?

I have LabVIEW 8.5 and DAQmx 8.7.1.  I'm making an installer and I'd like to use the DAQmx runtime 5 installer since it's the smallest, but I only get Full and runtime 1-4 as my options.  Anyone know if it's possible to make runtime 5 an option?  Thank you.

Hi envoymedical,

R&D is aware of that the NI-DAQmx 8.7.1 Runtime 5 is not currently available as an additional installer. This has already been addressed for the next release. Let me know if Runtime 4 is acceptable for current use. If not, we can try to find a suitable workaround.

Only runtime4 in DAQmx 8.7.1, my installers have now doubled in size!! This getting ridiculous.

Wait for another update?!?! What so it can get bigger! Then I have to recompile all my applications again.

A work around to get DAQmx 8.7.1 runtime 5 available as an additional installer IS needed.

And why does it need the LabVIEW 7.1.1 runtime? Can this be fixed too?

Hi Troy,

To get DAQmx Runtime 5 to be included with the installer, you can download it from our website. After the files are extracted, you can include the folder with all of the files inside in your LabVIEW project. When you configure the installer, put the DAQmx runtime folder in the Tempfolder. If you would like to, the install of the driver can be done automatically by telling the executable to run in the Advanced section of the installer configuration. Additional command line statements for the automation can be found in this article. Again, sorry for this inconvenience.

I did find and download the 8.7.1 runtime 5 but I have since decided to go back to DAQmx 8.6.0.
The only reason I installed DAQmx 8.7.1 in the first place was because the documentation for LabVIEW 8.5.1 only indicated that it was compatible with DAQmx 8.7.1.

In the mean time I have learned that LabVIEW 8.5.1 runs fine with DAQmx 8.6.0 so that's why I went back to it.

I prefer not to subject my users to so many runtime/driver updates every time they ask for a new feature. So the less often I update the better.
I think I'll wait for the next major release (Normally August isn't it?) Then I'll wait a while for the bugs to be ironed out. Then I'll install it (assuming runtime 5 is available to be distributed by that time).


Benefits of 8.6.0... no reinstall for bug fixes, no LabVIEW 7.1.1 runtime needed, MUCH smaller.
Benefits of 8.7.1... ??? dunno... its newer?
