Did you mean:

I can not save my task in the NI-DAQmx Base Task Configuration Utility.

I am using Labview PDA 8.2.1, DAQmx Base 2.2 and USB-6008.
The hardware can be detected in the Base Task Configuration Utility.

But the problem is that I can not save my channel selection in it.
For example, I can make task "A" as analog input.
After setting channel number, max and min voltage...., I clicked "save & exit" button.
And I checked the setup again in the Configuration utility, but there was only task "A" name.
Other detail information regarding channel, min, max voltage.... were not save.

This problem are in other task such as DIO.
Only I can save channel information of task "ai finite buffered".

I did reinstall DAQmx Base and other thing.

What 's the problem and how can I fix it.

I need your help.

Thanks.

Hi Nannom,

I was unable to recreate your problem with the configuration you listed.  This type of problem has only been seen once before by someone that I could find and it went away on its own with no explanation. Could you tell me the model PDA you are using and what OS you have on it? The best advice I can gove you right now would be to upgrade your DAQmx Base to Version 3.0 from the 2.2 you are using now and see if that fixes the problem.

I used DAQmx Base 3.0 before, but the problem is version 3.0 is only supported by LabVIEW 8.5.
I need Labview 8.5 PDA version, but it is not released yet.
I already contacted Tech support regarding LabView PDA 8.5.
It is going to be delivered someday but not yet.
Is there any other ways?

Thank you.

Hi nannom-

We made some improvements to increase the reliability of the Save and Exit code in NI-DAQmx Base 3.0, but I understand that it is not an option to upgrade until your new LabVIEW PDA version arrives.  In the meantime, there are a few options that you can try in NI-DAQmx Base 2.2 to possibly work around this issue:

  1. After editing your new task, click on one of the pre-configured tasks to view the task properties.  This will force the Task Configuration Utility to save and refresh all data from the mxbase.cfg file on disk, and
  2. Make sure that you have write access for the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DAQmx Base directory.  This is necessary as the Task Configuration Utility must update the mxbase.cfg in that directory as part of the Save Task process.

Hopefully this helps-

Hello all, I am having a similar problem to the one described above. I am using LabVIEW 8.5.1 with DAQmx base 3.1, and the touch panel module 8.5.1. My tasks used to save properly and work without issues, but now one of my analog tasks has randomly starting changing the channel back to zero when I close the task configuration utility.

Any ideas?

Mark

mstudio,

Do you mean that the channel number goes to zero?  For example, if you select channel 1 it will change to channel 0.  Does this happen when you close the task or when you save it?  When this used to work, which version of LabVIEW and DAQmx Base were you using?  You could always repair your DAQmx Base driver.  This can be done through the Control Panel>>Add or Remove Programs.  Select National Instruments Software>>  Change/Remove and find DAQmx Base in the list.  Choose to repair the driver and follow the steps.  See if this behavior still occurs after the repair.

Hi G Lo,

yes when I try setting the channel to 1 it goes back to zero again. This is for the analog output. I am using labview 8.5.1 with daqmx base 3.1, also I am working with the touch panel module 8.5.1. None of this has changed since my VI was working. I did indeed repair the daqmx base driver, but this does not seem to have made any difference!

mstudio,

This could be a corruption of the .cfg file.  This file is located at C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DAQmx Base and is called mxbase.cfg.  Make a copy of this file as back up before proceeding with the following troubleshooting steps.

1. Click on a task on the left side of the utility screen, change some settings.  Click on a different pre-made task.  Navigate back to the original task and see if the changes remained.

2. Create a new task and see if the settings cannot be saved.

3. Delete all tasks in the list.  Create a new task (should be the only one there) and see if the save will change these settings.

Let me know what these steps point out to you.

Hi GLo,

Thanks for the tips, I have tried what you suggested. My results:

1) When i tried this the changes were sometimes kept, but sometimes they were not. Typically if I made a change, selected a different task and then went straight back to the original task, the changes were kept, but if I went to a few different tasks before returning to the original, the changes had disappeared.

2) Again, sometimes the changes were saved, sometimes not. If I made a new task, saves and exited and then went straight back in, usually the task remained as it should have been, but if I exited and came back in a few times, the task changed.

3) This seemed to work fine.

I should also mention that this problem only appears to affect the analog tasks, the digital tasks have not had any problems. I should also say that although the task configuration utility displays the wrong information, when I run the VI the tasks seem to be configured correctly.

What's my next move? I have already tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the daqmx base drivers.

Thanks

mstudio

mstudio,

I have not been able to reproduce the behavior that you are witnessing.  Which operating system are you running?  Also, I would suggest changing the configuration, saving, exiting the utility, reopening the utility and see if the changes stay.  If not, can you attach some screenshots which show the utility before and after a save (in the incorrect case).  You mentioned that the third step worked fine....would this be a suitable workaround for you?
