Installing NI-DAQmx on Windows 2003

Hi!

Does anyone have a recipe to install NI-DAQmx on Windows Server 2003?  I installed the drivers and after installing the PCI card I get this error message :

'windows could not load the installer for DAQdevice'

And when I go to the device manager, there is no driver loaded for the card ans I'm unable to find one to get it to work.

Thanks

Ben

Hi Ben,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the NI forums!  DAQmx is not officially supported on Windows Server 2003, but I have heard of customers getting it to work in the past.  You should try to disable Physical Address Extension in Windows (although this will limit you to 4 GB of RAM).  Do you have a computer with another operating system you can install the device on?  You could run the acquisiton on one computer and transfer the data over to your server if necessary.

You also might want to try a different version of DAQmx.  Again, this is not guaranteed to work, but if you are able to get it running please post the steps you took.

If you don't mind my asking, is there a specific reason that you need to perform your data acquisition on a server?  Here is a link to our product suggestion page if you want to request support for Windows Server 2003.

We were able to get 8.0.1 to work.  Nothing else we tried from the 7.x or 8.x seemed to work.

I should mention that the recipe is:

1) remove all the NI cards from the system

2) go into the device manager and remove all the "Pci Devices" with the ?? next to them in "Other Devices".  There will probably be one per card, unless you have other PCI cards that aren't working

3) Install 8.0.1

4) Install the cards.  I did them one at a time.  I suggest doing them one at a time, just to control variables we doln't need to be messing with 🙂

5) This will not work right out of the gate.  You have to go back into the device manager and remove the PCI device again.  THEN if you scan for new hardware changes, it will find it and load the NI driver.

Don't ask me why this is this flaky, but it does work, albeit it takes a bit of doing.

Hope this helps someone else.  I just pulled my hair out for the last two days trying to get this to work.

We are having the same issue.  Did you try version 8.8?
