Installing niDaqMX 9.3/9.2 fails on Windows 2008 64 Bit

I am having a problem installing NiDAQMX 9.3 on a Windows 2008 R2 64bit server.   The installer starts and fails on the error message.   When I did the install, I left all the selected defaults.

"NI-DAQmx Switch Core for 64 Bit Windows 2.2.0" installation has failed with the following error:  "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected".

If you click No on the Continue, I get

"Error 2: Failed to perform action License Manager Updating OS Compatibilty".

I have tried two different administrator accounts, three different versions of the Ni-DaqMX, 9.3.0 Full, 9.2.3 Full and 9.3.0 core and all come with the same error.  Each installer was a standard download, I did not use the standard NI downloader.  I have also tried to installed the Core Switch indepentant of the Setup.exe (DAQmxSwitch64.msi) which still did not work.   Included below are two of the Event Viewers of the MsiInstaller.

"Product: NI-DAQmx Switch Core for 64 Bit Windows 2.2.0 -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.  Action niswd_OCM_Install.DAQ.SWITCH64, location: C:\Windows\Installer\MSI90B7.tmp, command: /x64 /file "C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\Shared\niorb\niswda.ocm"

and

"Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: NI-DAQmx Switch Core for 64 Bit Windows 2.2.0. Product Version: 2.20.49152. Product Language: 9. Manufacturer: National Instruments. Installation success or error status: 1603."

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Joe

Thank you for asking your question on NI Discussion Forum.

I suggest you to use NI Downloader by following this link http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/2337/lang/en

I hope this will help you to install succesfully NI DAQmx 9.3.

Best Regards,

Do you have "Remote Desktop Services" installed?  Try uninstalling it, then re-running the installation.  There is an issue with some of our installers where we do not properly install if you are in a Terminal Services environment, and I believe that having "Remote Desktop Services" installed will force you into a Terminal Services environment.

Thanks Ben for the reply..

I will try this next, and yes I do have terminal sessions enabled and I think Remote Desktop Services is part of that.   I tried using the online installer as Vincent suggested, and received the same errors.   In the process of doing all the installs/uninistalls, some windows services no longer start (base filtering engine) so I am starting from scratch again.

Like Ben said, make sure to run the installation on the machine and not through Remote Desktop, especially since you are using a server OS.

Also, running the MSIs by themself is highly discouraged, as there are many interdependencies involved in the NI installers.  Please generate a log of your installation as described here: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/AB597E885DB7D16B86256E92006DB232

If by "starting from scratch again" means you are reimaging to a clean machine, please run the log the first time you install DAQmx.  Then if it fails we can take a look.

ck.x / BEN,

Thanks for the help, and wanted to follow up on this.   I work in one of those big companies where IT does all installs of Windows, so it took awhile to get the box scheduled in the queue to be rebuilt.  I requested during the build process, as soon as possible, let me install the niDaq drivers which I did through the console session.

This time, the drivers installed without a hitch.

Again thank you.
