MAX freezes

Hi

I'm having problems getting my PCI 6132 card working. With the card installed, I open up MAX and can see the card. However, If I run the test panel to read an analog input  MAX freezes. It only the MAX program which freeze not the whole computer. I have a similar problem with labview programs reading the analog inputs.

I'm using a Dell Latitude E4300 laptop the PCI-6132 is housed in a magmabox expansion connected with a expresscard interface. I have labview 7.1, NI-DAQ 7.5 and MAX ver. 3.1.1.3004 on the computer. I suspect the problem is related to the E4300 or the drivers not being installed correctly, because the test panel works using the same PCI card and magmabox with a Dell Inspirion 6400 laptop. The same software is installed on the inspirion 6400.

So far I tried making sure that the drivers on the E4300 are up to date and I reinstalled NI-DAQ and labview, but neither have solved the problem.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

thanks

To make sure I'm understanding the issue, your PCI-6132 is seated in a magma box expansion system that connects to your laptop and uses LabVIEW 7.1 and NI-DAQ 7.5.  Everything works fine on your Inspiron 6400 but on the Latitude E4300 MAX freezes when you open a test panel and LabVIEW freezes when you try to acquire from the device.

The first thing I would check is to make sure that you reinstalled your software in the proper order.  Are you using DAQmx or Traditional DAQ to program your LabVIEW because NI-DAQ includes both and it might be easier to just upgrade NI-DAQmx to the latest version, or Traditional NI-DAQ to the latest version.  I would also try to reset the device in MAX by right clicking the device and selecting Reset Device.  The PCI express card that your magma box connects to on the E4300 may also be broken.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the response. After swapping componets a few times, I determined that the problem was with the PCI expresscard as you suggested. Initially, I had keep each expresscard with it's respective computer, so it looked like a problem with the computer. But when i switched the expresscards the problem followed the expresscard.

Thanks

Nick
