MAX

Hi,

I have installed two NI PCI-6220 devices on my Windows 7 computer (64 bit).

When I open MAX version 5.3 I can see that my devices are installed correctly. But when I try to create a task for the devices, a new window is displayed asking me to choose the type of item I want to add. The only thing I see in the window is the Data Neighborhood icon, nothing else, and when I click on this icon nothing happens. All buttons except the cancel button are dimmed. What can be the reason for this?

Hi,

I took a look in MAX, is this what you see when you try to create it?

If so, you should be able to expand the node and find the options for NI-DAQmx Task and Global Virtual Channel

You can also right click on the PCI-6220 under Devices and Interfaces and select "Create Task".

Hi Anders,

Thanks for your reply.

The problem is that I can see the Data Neighborhood icon but it is not possible to expand the node and find the options for NI-DAQmx Task and Global Virtual Channel.

This is also not possible when I right click the Device listed in the device list and selects “Create task”.

I am using MAX version 5.3 and NI-DAQmx ver. 9.6.

Do you have any ideas about why it is not possible to expand the Data Neighborhood node?

Hi,

Okay.

There are different versions of DAQmx. Full, Configuration Run-Time and Core Run-Time. Which version did you install? if you don't know try to find the installer file and check the name of it. If the name doesn't tell which one it is, look at the size. From the DAQmx Full driver download page you can browse to the different versions and check which one you have.

What NI-DAQmx components have you installed? If you expand the software node in MAX, what DAQmx items do you see?

I have:

NI-DAQmx ADE Support

NI-DAQmx Device Driver

NI-DAQmx MAX Configuration

Do you have all those three?

What happens when you right-click on your device? Can you select create task or is it grayed out? If you can click it, what window pops up?

Are you able to create tasks from LabVIEW?

Best regards

Anders

Hi

Thank you for your effort trying to help me in this matter.

I think I have everything  installed. I installed the NI-DAQmx ver 9.5.5, which I know was working on my previous Windows 7 computer.
I compared the installed software between my previous computer and this new computer and everything seems to be ok.

See the screenshot from the MAX on my new computer below:

When I right click on the device and selects create task, the create task window appears. The only thing I see in this window is the Data Neighborhood icon, but it is not possible to expand the node and find the options for NI-DAQmx Task and Global Virtual Channel.  This works however on the other computer.

Hi,

If you have everything installed it sounds quite strange, I would try to repair or reinstall DAQmx and see if that solves the problem.

Judging by your name I assume you're from Sweden, please feel free to give us a call at 08-587 895 00 and then we can continue solving the problem a little bit quicker.

Best regards

Anders

For anyone who has a similar problem and finds this thread:

I don't know what, but something had gone wrong on the computer used in this case.

Since it was possible to reformat the computer in this case, we made a clean install of windows and installed everything again. This solved the problem.

Re-installing the operating system solved the problem, everything  seems to be working now.

Thank you Anders for a good support.
