MXi4 link not working

I am trying to setup a PXI 1050 chassis through a MXi4 optical fiber link. In MAX, the chassis first comes up as unidentified but then when I identify it as a PXI 1050 chassis the MXi4 link doesn't work - time out error message. What does this mean? Is there a solution?

Thanks

Paul

Hi there Paul,

Welcome to the NI Discussion Forums!

Just to catch up with you, have you been following this article?

In the 'Configuring PCI System in MAX', the point which sticks out to me is "Note: If you are using a remote controller, such as MXI-4 or 8360, to control your chassis, you should select External PC."

This will just make sure that the computer realises that's a part of the PXI Chassis via an MXI link, rather than trying to target as an internal one. We can then specify the type of chassis we're trying to connect to in the Chassis (Unidentified) section in the PXI System tree. If I were attempting to interface with a PXI-1052 chassis for example, I'd identify the chassis as the PXI-1052.

If this still doesn't work, would you be able to send me a printscreen of your current MAX configuration?

For timeout errors specifically:

  • Is the chassis not on during PC boot sequence? It needs to be active in order for the PXI hardware to be enumerated.
  • Cabling may not be fitted correctly; this could cause in no connection being made between PC and chassis.
  • It's possible that you could have a corrupted driver installation; in this instance you can try reinstalling your device drivers.

I hope that this helps.

Kind Regards,
