Monitor AO channel with Traditional DAQ

I would like to monitor one of the AO channels using Traditional DAQ. With DAQmx, one can specify an AO channel to be read (e.g. Dev1/_ao0_vs_aognd). Can one do the same thing using Traditional DAQ without physically wiring an output channel to an input channel?
