NI-6008 OEM Only loads the Firmware Loader and not main drivers.

I pluged the NI-6008 into the usb port the first time is shows loading driver for NI-6008 OEM and then the Firmware Loader.  Right after it says the hardware is ready to use I go to check it in the Measurement and Automation Application and it shows the card there but as if it were not connected and it shows N/A for the device serial number.  The card is still connected and it did say it loaded the drivers. I restarted the computer without removing the 6008 and when it came back up only the Firmware loader shows in the task manager.  We have two of thease cards and both are doing the same thing.

Hi Seth,

What OS are you using?  The USB-6008 uses the NI-DAQmx driver, version 8.3, linked here, IF you are using Windows XP.  Do you know which version of NI-DAQmx you have?  That information can be found under the Software tab in Measurement & Automation Explorer.

Also do you have the OEM version of the card, or the regular version?  Both will require the same driver.

Regards,

Nicholas B, Applications Engineer, National Instruments

I am facing the same problem, I had two 6008 regular devices connected to my XP and when I tried to switch to the oem board I get exactly the same symptom as above. I am using the latest version NI-DAQm.

NI e-mailed me about this problem they say you have to have the latest version of NI-DAQmx and the latest NI-DAQbase version so you can select the driver it uses.  I didn't have to select the driver after both were installed but all works fine now.

How do I select the driver, when the OEM board is connected, it shows up as USB-6xxx firmware loader.
In NI-DAQmx USB Driver Selector there are no entries.

If I connect a regular USB-6008 and for that device I can select the driver.

Actually there are some difference between the OEM board that I have and the one in the OEM User Guide, my board has an LED on it, this is not present on the schematic in the manually. Maybe there is a new version out with a different pnp-id that is not present in the .inf-file.

The board is marked E45F02 19312B-02 USB-6008 OEM

I have checked the registry and the OEM-board has the following ID Vid_3923&Pid_71d6 which is not preset in NIWDM9161.inf. My conclusion is that there must exists a never version of the driver. I will try to remove all drivers and restall 8.3.

The following devices are listed in the inf-file.
Vendor="National Instruments"

This is exactly what NI told me to do there is a difference between NI-DAQmx and NI-DAQmxBase. I had newest NI-DAQmx already installing the base package fixed my problem.

Hi Seth -

This may simply be a case of incorrectly installed drivers or corrupt firmware.  Have you installed both the NI-DAQmx and NI-DAQmxBase drivers?
If so, please follow the instructions linked below to manually load the correct firmware on the devices.  If not, you can follow the second and third links to download and install these drivers.  (Note that both must be installed for the firmware selection option to show up in your MAX menus.)

I have reinstalled 8.3 and base 2.0 and it doesn't allow me to change driver for the oem-board, only for the standard 6008-board. I have posted screen dumps and version info, do you see anything wrong?

I noticed that the base 2.0 was released in november 2005, the oem-board was released in april 2006 ...

I have managed to get things working with a workaround waiting for the real solution.
I added the pnp-id to the NIWDM9161.inf file, deleted the NIWDM9161.pnf and reinstalled the usb-driver. After that everything seems to work as you stated above.

Hi Wavemaker,

I have NI-DAQmx 8.3 installed (over older versions) on my machine and the USB-6008/9 OEM devices work fine.  I checked out the inf file you were referring to and I had it in there.  Did you install NI-DAQmx 8.3 over an older version of NI-DAQmx?  Or did you install it on a fresh machine?

I have a machine here that has a clean insall of NI-DAQmx 8.3 on it and the INF file you are mentioning (NIWDM9161.inf) does not exist.  It looks like those 6008/9 OEM devices are located in the niembed.inf file for DAQmx 8.3.  It is possible that you had an issue when upgrading your driver that is causing this problem.

My first suggestion would be to uninstall NI-DAQmx from your system (including all INF files) and re-install fresh.  It would be very helpful if you could e-mail NI technical support about this issue so that we can dig into it a bit deeper.  Mention that you've been working with Sal Santolucito on it.

Thanks
Sal
