NI 6009 DAQ Analog Output ??

Does the Analog output in the NI 6009 DAQ need to have an analog input ? Can it produce an ouput voltage using the USB cable which is connected to the PC ?

No, the analog output does not require something wired to one of the analog inputs. You program the analog out with the DAQmx driver and you call the DAQmx driver in whatever programming language you are using.

Thank you for your reply.

I had one more question.........what i am trying to do is produce +5V from the DAQ via the usb. I have a USB cable of a phone in which i have cut the power (red) wire inside and i am going to connect the wire coming out of the DAQ to the power wire of the phone usb cable which would then power the phone.

In short, i am using the DAQ to power my phone instead of the Pc. So would i nneed to use the Analog output or the digital output ?

Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it.

You should be careful using a DAQ board as a power supply. Provide some isolation and check the current draw of the phone. The current out of the 6009 is pretty small.

So, then using a Analog Output would be fine ? or Digital Output ?

I'm not sure it would be 'fine' but you can output 5V with either the analog out or digital output. Again, the 6009 was not designed to be a power supply.
