NI MAX experienced an internal error and cannot load the page.

Hi,

When I click on either PCIe-6321 devices in MAX I get the following screen.

max_error.png

I found this issue http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/5714DAA369C56A5286257E6F0078E3FA. It does not apply because I am using an english operating system but attempted to install PXI services 15.0f1 anyway. It is already installed on the PC.

I tried resetting the MAX database both through MAX and with the standalone software

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/2C7480E856987FFF862573AE005AB0D9

Neither of these resolved the issue.

I also tried uninstalling and re-installing MAX and still observe this issue.

Software list in picture below

PC is win7 x64

Thanks,

Brett

Hi Brett!

You can try Force Reinstalling NI MAX from the command prompt.  You will need to do this as an admin, but there is a KnowledgeBase article on how to do this.

Also, can you click on "NI MAX has experienced an internal error and cannot load the page" and expand the error?  It would be helpful to know what is going on.

Hope this helps!

Hi Casey,

Thanks for the response.

Clicking on the error or around it doesn't appear to provide any more information. I can't work out how I would get more information.

I could not find anything in the log files located in "c:\programdata\national instruments\max"

The error appears for both Dev1 and Dev2

There doesn't appear to be any error for the RTSI cable I added yesterday.

I can run the test panel by launching it manually with the command "c:\windows\SysWOW64\nidmfpan.exe /devid:dev1"

It appears to work as expected.

I attempted the forced reinstall by following the instructions listed in the KB article you linked.

It does not appear to make any difference to the error displaying in MAX.

Everything is usable and functional, but I can not rename the devices. I need to swap their names for them to work properly with our software.

Hi Brett,

First, try renaming the devices by right clicking on the name int he left-hand panel and click "Rename".  If that does not work, remove the cards from your computer, delete them from MAX, and reconnect them in the desired order.  This should automatically make them "Dev1" and "Dev2", respectively.  Save your configurations, exit MAX, and reopen it.

Also, make sure that the cards are seated completely.  It may require a little bit of force, but make sure they are properly seated.

Hope this helps!

Hi Casey,

I didn't get to test your last two suggestions. The server was also suffering from BSOD from a faulty RAM stick. I could induce the BSOD by running a Microsoft Security Essential quick scan.

After replacing the RAM I did a complete format and Windows install and everything is working normally.
