NI MAX fails during boot after installed to my laptop

After I installed NI MAX to my DELL computer, the computer displays runtime error during start up.
The error message says Runtime Error! Program: C:|program files\national instruments\MAX\nimax.exe  This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information"
I uninstalled all NI product from the computer & installed again but the same result. I also installed different versions of MAX but made no difference.

Hi mchips,

What driver (and version) are you installing on your system (which in turn installs MAX)? Please try the solutions from KB 42HG08DD. Even though you uninstalled and re-installed the software, this does not mean that the folders and all data were deleted and re-created. Our latest DAQmx driver is NI-DAQmx 8.5 for Windows.

I  originally  had MAX4.0 and I installed 4.1 to see if the new MAX will fix the problem but after installation not only got the same problem but also got the database connection problem. I suppose can take care the database problem by trying what you have provided but you think this will also take care the runtime error?

Mchips,

When does this run-time error occur? (When the computer starts up, LabVIEW starts, program starts, etc). Please make sure to check any firewall settings, as the KB recommends, along with seeing step 5 of the KB previously linked, where it says to delete the data folder. If you are still having problems after this, please download the latest DAQ driver, which is DAQmx 8.5 for Windows. (These drivers only support LabVIEW 7.1 and above) Is this related to your other post here?

The error occurs when the window starts.  I will try your recommendations and let you know. Thanks

O.K I checked the firewall in the control panel and it already had all labview programs and MAX under exceptions tab. Then I checked the services in administrative tool and both NI configuration manager and nidevldu were stopped so I started them. Next I started MAX and immediately got the runtime error also two items are stopped again.

mchips,

Have you tried deleting the data folder, as step 5 recommends? (Did it help?) Have you downloaded and installed DAQmx 8.5? Any extra information is always helpful in assisting with the issue.

O.K instead of deleting individual files in the data folder, when I deleted the whole folder and restarted the computer, MAX now starts without the runtime error and reads the DAQ card. But when I tried to turn computer off, I get the blue screen with "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". Tried to re-start the windows and got the same result.

Mchips,

I would like to ask what DAQ card you have? (model, PCI, PCI express?) Also, what are your computer specs? (type, model, other cards in the computer) Please see related KB 3I7CFEA6. All of this is pointing to a BIOS issue. Please download the latest bios update from you computer vendor website. Lastly, does your computer exhibit these problems without the card even in the computer?
