NI USB-5132 ground conection

Hello,

I have a 5132 digitizer and I ask about the measurement ground to PC chassis. I tested with a ohmmeter and they are insolated, but I do not know How level voltage it can drive.
Any help will be appreciated.

What exactly do you mean with "how level voltage it can drive?" Would you like to know the maximum input voltage for this device?

Could you please explain your doubt with more details?

Thanks.

Hi Luciano,

Thank you for your reply.

I don't asking about the maximun input voltage for this device. My question is about the maximun voltage between both the device ground and PC ground ( chassis of PC or Notebook). I think that this level is near of a few volts, no more than 10 V.

Hello,

Your device has no protection once he is connected directly to an USB port.

The ideal voltage difference between PC ground and board ground is "zero". It's not recommended to have a difference between those grounds.

Thanks.

In fact- if you read the manual you will note in the installation instructions that NI recommends a ground braid to building ground connection on the device at the screw provided for that purpose.  To avoid possible damage your notebook should be grounded externally (like, through a docking station) to the same ground point.
