NI-USB 6008 and Red Lion Cub5

Solved!
Go to solution
I have a USB 6008 attached to an AXL32 chip for analog voltage recording and would like to add a Red Lion Cub5 counter to display the sample number.  I would like my labview program to drive the coutner via the digital output so that I can see what data sample is occuring.  There is a TTL setting on the Cub5, but I can't seem to increment the counter via the DAQmax test panel.

tzarcone,

Thank you for posting on the NI Forums. I was able to look at the data sheet for the Red Lion Cub5 and I wanted to make sure that you properly configured the TTL circuit as shown in the diagram by adding a diode and a NAND gate. It seems as though these components are necessary in addition to properly setting the switches on the device. The USB-6008 will output TTL signal so I believe the problem might lie with how you have the Cub5 configured. Hope this helps.

Aaron,

I use a resistor connected between NI-6008 5 volt  and  the digital output #17 to get the current changes needed to activate the timer.  This worked during beta testing via the M&A Explorer.  The Cub is a bit cumbersom to program, right now I'm having diffuculty getting the manual reset to work via the #18 output.  It might be like you suggest, I may not have the Cub configured correctly.  Right now I have a seperate task and vi for collecting analog data from the same NI-6008, I'm assuming that I will have to create a seperate task and vi for the digital output side of the NI-6008.

Cheers,

Troy

Troy,

You will not have to create a separate VI for analog and digital items, but you will have to create a separate task for each. LabVIEW allows you to run Analog and Digital Tasks at the same time. Just from the sound of it, I believe that the issue could lie within the Cub's configuration. If all else fails you might try and contact the maker of the Cub to see if they can help you configure the device properly for a TTL signal as it sounds like you are properly giving the device a TTL signal.

Aarron,

I've had great success.  I now am able to control the Cub5 (counting and reseting) via the NI-6008 and the M&A Explorer.  It took a while to navigate the Cub5 settings, but I expected that with only two buttons to select all the cool options. Now all that is left is getting my labview program to increment the counter whenever it samples data from NI-6008 analog input.  Thanks for your advice and guidance.

Cheers,

Troy
