NIPAL causing computer rebooting

Hi,

I'm using a lot of National Instrument PCI 6035-E card in Dell 390 and T3400 computers.  We are experiencing computer rebooting when accessing data from the PCI card.  But this problem is intermittent, so sometimes it's ok and sometimes it's rebooting.  When looking at the dump crash file it creates, it says that it's related to Nipalk.sys.  I'm using driver 6.9.3 and I cannot update to driver 7.x.x because our own dll will not work anymore.  I'm using Windows XP SP3.

Before that, we used others computer with Windows 2000 and same drivers and no problem.

What can cause my problem ?

Hello Francois,

What version of NI-PAL do you have, and what version of LabVIEW are you using?  You should be able to find this by opening Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and expanding My System » Software.  Do you have any other versions of DAQ on your computer (i.e. DAQmx)?  Is there any program, or function, in particular where the reboot seems to happen often?  Unfortunately, I have never seen this problem but hopefully we can try to narrow it down to a particular instance.

Hello Brandon,

Thanks for your answer.  I'm using V1.5.6f0.  I'm not using LabView.  We are using a Delphi base dll.  Yes it seems to shutdown when we try to read current from an analog input.  It's the same as what we used for many years (previously on Windows 2000 operating software without any bugs).

Bests regards

Hello Francois,

When you mentioned the memory dump were you referring to the internal error log that LabVIEW generates whenever it crashes?  If so, could you please post this on the forum so that I may take a look at it.  Also, what version of NI-VISA do you have (can also be found from MAX)?  One thing I would suggest is upgrading NI VISA two versions higher than you already have (i.e. 3.0 to 3.2).  This should upgrade NI-PAL without having to upgrade DAQmx.  Give this a try and let me know if it works for you.

Hi Brandon,

I don't see NI-VISA in MAX.  Also I'm talking about windows minidump file.  I'm not using LabVIEW.

Hello Francois,

So then what program are you using when the computer reboots?  Is this just a test panel in MAX?

We are using our own application with Delphi-base DLL.

Hello Francois,

Unfortunately since you are using your own application with a Delphi-base dll, and are unable to upgrade the DAQ driver, there isn't really anything we can do on our end.  I apologize that we are unable to help anymore, but in order to upgrade NI-PAL you would need to upgrade your DAQ driver.  Is there a particular reason why you are unable to use LabVIEW or Measurement Studio?
