PXI in MAX

I'm new to using Labview RT and PXI. I've worked with Labview for 12 years. I have a PXI-8184 RT controller with an analog I/O card, GPIB, and several CAN cards (8463). I'm using an Ethernet hub and my PC, PXI system, and another device all have their own IP addresses. The PXI system shows up as a remote system but also shows up under My System with no slot info. I'm just starting to work with the CAN cards (reading from an Intrepid device) and followed the instructions to setup the RT Hardware configuration for NI-CAN.
Questions:
-- Why do the CAN channels show up under My System, Data Neighborhood but not under the Remote System, Data Neighborhood. I'm not sure if this is an issue but I'm curious.
-- Why does the PXI system show up under both My System and Remote System?

Like I said, I'm new to the RT module and PXI so these may be very stupid questions but I'm curious. It just seems odd that my other devices show up under the Remote System and only the CAN stuff shows up under My System.

I tried searching for answers but if you try to search with "CAN" in the title you "can" get all replies to all posts!

Thanks.

Hello Task,
It seems strange to me that you are seeing your PXI RT in both remote systems and my systems,
prehaps a chassis of the same model was installed previously onto that PC, can you verify this on
another PC?
Also the CAN channels show up under My System because your PC will do the actually conversion
of the bytes using the information in the CAN channels.
Does this answer your question?

Nothing was installed previously on this computer...it is used only for this development project and I personally set it up.

Under My System I see the PXI under Devices and Interfaces, with no info for the slots.

Under Remote Systems I see the system with all the slot info.

I'm assuming it shows up under My System since I have CAN boards installed. I'll be working on the CAN stuff later today. I'll post any problems/results I find.

Thanks,
Teri
