Reference trigger documentation clarification

Hi there,

I could use a bit of clarification regarding the operation of Reference Triggers, before simply testing it myself. The question is whether or not it's possible for subsequent reference triggers to be recognized -- starting a new acquisition -- if an acquisition started by a previous reference trigger is ongoing. In our application, reference triggers would be quite useful (as a means to acquire data prior to the triggering event), but it is of paramount importance to us that no trigger events are missed, rather than ensuring that each of the reference-triggered acquisitions contains the same number of post-trigger samples.

It's not specifically discussed in any documentation what the behavior is when triggers arrive during ongoing acquistions. With start triggers, in our experience, triggers during acquisitions are ignored. I'm guessing that this is, unfortunately, also the case for reference triggers.

Hi Vijay,

You are correct, unfortunately, you are is still going to miss subsequent triggers if you are still aquiring.  A better way to  do this would be to synchronize a digital and an analog task and do post processing to determine what analog data corresponds with your digital triggers.  You could also do this by using a counter to synchronize with your analog task and count the internal timebase between digital trigger pulses.  Have a great weekend!
