I have recently purchased an NI cDAQ-9188 CompactDAQ device, to run in conjunction with an Advantech 510 industrial computer running Windows XP Embedded (Service Pack 2). I have installed LabVIEW 2010 and the drivers that came with the cDAQ-9188, but when I open the device under Measurement and Automation Explorer, I can detect the device but I cannot access the modules within it (an NI 9205 voltage detector and an NI 9208 current detector), and so cannot program tasks to use within LabVIEW. After installation, there was a message saying that the computer could not find the file “niede.sys”, but even after I showed the computer where to find this file, this did not change my ability to access the modules.
I have installed the same software on another computer running ordinary Windows XP, and I have full control over the modules on that computer. Is there some way that I can get the drivers for this device to work properly under Windows XP Embedded?

XP embedded is a gutted version of XP and DAQ drivers are not supported on XP embedded, I am not suprised that it is not working because there is a lack of dlls and other functions.

However if you want to try here are the links to some XP links 😉

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. It seems that the only way to run these devices under Embedded is to incorporate the Runtime into the Embedded load itself, at build time. The only thing I haven't tried is uninstalling the entire NI-DAQmx package and installing just the version 5.0 runtime, but since I actually want to use this computer for development (it's a real computer, not an ATM or a fridge), I think I'll just get a proper Windows XP install put on it instead. Thanks again!

Proper XP is probably a good decision, the old driver version that specifically mentions XPe support doesn't support the 9188, and the newer driver versions don't claim support and have not been tested with XPe.
