Several Issues with cRIO9045 Set-Up

Solved!
Go to solution

Dear community,

first of all I'm totally new in regards with NI and LabView. Within a joint-venture university project, I want to measure, control and display various signals.

The hardware and software set up is a cRIO 9045 with the modules 9205, 9263, 9401 and 9222. Furthermore an Embeddes Control and Monitoring Software Suite is installed and used.

I followed the online installation instruction (http://www.ni.com/getting-started/install-software/d/compactrio). As for now I run into several issues:

1) As shown in the instruction, the Distributed System Manager has only the tab "Scan Engine". None of the modules are shown in the DSM. Only "NI_SystemState" and "System"

2) The software I installed on the cRIO is shown in the attachment. If I try to open the test-panel of any module in the NI MAX this error occurs "the driver couldn't communicate during the selftest with Mod1. [...] Error at selftest: -88302. Possible reasons: An intern error occured.

3) If I want to create a task in the NI MAX, e.g. a voltage measurement task, the system doesn't find any supported hardware.

4) Even if I ignore those issues and try to create a project and add the cRIO in the project folder as seen in the video in the link above, I only see the modules in the tab "Real Time Ressources" with no possibility to add an AI. In the video the modules are directly chassis tab. (see 2nd attachment). There was no pop-up window to select "Scan Engine" but I changed it by right-clicking the Chassis and switching it.

As for now, I tried to reinstall the driver on the cRIO but it didn't solve all those issues. This installations video and the written instruction look very good and simple, but they cannot help me with the problems. I assume that alle those issues i encountered are related to each other.

I would appreciate any help and many thanks in advance.

Greetings

Hi Consta,

From your screen shots, all the module slots are set up for NI-DAQmx and are in Real-Time programming mode

  1. "the Distributed System Manager has only the tab "Scan Engine". None of the modules are shown in the DSM." This sounds like expected behavior. DSM will show the I/O Variables (which exist for Scan Engine [Real-Time Scan programming mode] modules). My understanding is that DAQmx channels / modules [Real-Time programming mode] will not show up in DSM.
  2. "I try to open the test-panel of any module in the NI MAX this error occurs" On the module properties page, click save. This should apply the slot mode [Real-Time programming mode] to the cRIO. Then try the Self-Test again. The error could also indicate that a DAQmx-related component is not installed or did not install correctly to the cRIO.
  3. Yes, probably related to #2 and #4
  4. The video you are viewing was made before we created the CompactRIO with DAQmx, and therefore the screenshots don't exactly match the latest software environment.

I think that you're correct and there is a common cause to #2-4. Not being able to add an AI to the LabVIEW project sounds like perhaps an order of installation issue. I'd recommend force reinstalling the cRIO 17.6 driver (and DAQmx 17.6, which is part of cRIO 17.6). Then, reformat the cRIO-9045 and reinstall now that the files on your PC are refreshed.

Hi Andrew,

thank you for your answer and advices!

I managed to solve the hardware problems #1-3 with two tries of a reinstallation of the cRIO 17.6 driver. Furthermore I begin to understand the different programming modes (FPGA/Scan/RT), and I even managed to set up my first multiple measurements with the RT-mode, even though I am very unfamiliar with those DAQmx tasks.
