Signal conditioning and CJC in PCI-MIO-16E

Hi.

I have a PCI-MIO-16E board. I have perused through the PCI E-series manual and want to make sure I understand something correctly.

My goal is to take measurements from a thermocouple. To do so, I need a CJC sensor (which is not built in to this DAQ board) and a device that aids with signal conditioning to amplify the voltage difference (which is also not a part of this board). For signal conditioning, I need accessory hardware, like the SCXI. Cold Junction Compensator sensors are also sold separately if not built into the board.

Am I understanding the capabilities of this board correctly and also getting the accessories necessary to use a thermocouple with a NI DAQ right?

Thanks!

Hi there katiemo,

You've basically got the gist of it. Although in order to use the SCXI platform, you will need an SCXI chassis, an SCXI thermocouple module, and a terminal block in addition to the thermocouple. The CJC is typically built in. This will definitely provide a very good temperature reading, although there are several other options you may want to consider that may be easier and better suited for your application.

At the bottom of this document, you can see the various options available to you.

May I ask what else your project entails, and the various requirements so that I can recommend the best options?
