Synchronizing analog input between a multifunction USB and a compactDAQ unit? (mulit-system synchronization)

I am trying to synchronize analog inputs from a USB-6225 and a cDAQ-9172 unit.  I need to use the compactDAQ unit because of the accelerometer module (NI 9233).  According to documentation this can be done using PFI lines...however, I do not have "A digital I/O module like the NI 9401 should be placed in slots 5 and 6 to get access to the PFI lines".  Help?

Below are two links that discuss how to synchronize multiple DAQ devices. Please let me know if these don't provide you with the information that you need.

Yes, this is good, but I have the legacy DAQ chassis (no bnc PFI lines).  I assume then that the only way to access the PFI lines is to purchase a digital I/O module.

You are correct - you will need a digital I/O module to access the PFI lines in your chassis. The DIO module you select will need to be installed in either slot 5 or 6 in your chassis. Additionally, only hardware timed modules will work for what you are trying to do. If you click on the "DIO Modules" link below and scroll down to the digital section, you can select any one that states "correlated". This indicates that there is hardware timing onboard.
