The functions pallette in the Bolck Diagram doesn't have DAQ function.

Hi there,

I have NI-DAQ 7.5 installed on my computer which I downloaded from the NI.com website after installing
the 7.4 version s/w from the CDs that shipped with my DAQ boards and SC equipment.  I have then
installed LAbView 7.1 from the CD.

After opening a blank VI, I popped-up the functions pallette on the block diagram to place the AI Sample Channel.vi
to do some proper DAQ.  But I don't find the DAQ function on my pallette.

This is the third time I reinstalled the s/w since yesterday after being suggested to reinstall all my s/w by NI Support.
Any advice that would really work?

Cheers,
Aj

If you installed LabVIEW after DAQ, then you did it in the wrong order. LabVIEW should always be installed first. Also, 7.5 is the latest version of DAQmx. DAQmx does not have AI Sample Channel. That's part of traditional DAQ and the latest version of that is 7.4 but will not be installed if you only downloaded DAmx 7.5. If your DAQ board supports it, I would recomend that you use DAQmx instead.

I now see the DAQ Assistant on my functoins pallette including AI Sample Channel.  This is with DAQmx7.4 that shipped with

the h/w.  So, what is the equivalent of AI Sample Channel.vi in 7.5v?  If there isn't one, how would one go about reading the data in a

block diagram and show it on the front panel using a thermocouple with SCXI-1303, SCXI 1102 and SCXI-1000?

Cheers.

DAQmx uses the DAQmx Read function. It's a polymorphic VI that you can select the type of read you do. I suggest you look at the DAQmx shipping examples.

Salut Carnot,

To read using DAQmx if you are just starting with it, there are two ways. The easy way is to drop down a DAQ Assistant express VI and just follow the directions as indicated in the popup to create the appropriate channel.
Another way is to use one of the shipping examples. You can access shipping examples by going to Help>>Find Examples in LabVIEW and browse to hardware input and output>>DAQmx>>analog measurement for analog input. The easiest one is the Continuours acquisition internal clock (Cont Acq&Graph Voltage-Int Clk.vi). Hope this helps. Let me know if you have more questions and i will be more than happy to help you.

Dear Dennis K & Serges L,

Thank you so much for the replies you posted to my queries.  That is awesome!  It's just good to know we do have a communitiy here.  I did figure out how to read the data and been able to read in inputs from my thermocouples and I'm working on getting all the data from various t/cs into an array and on from there into different variables - I mean indicators(!)  It's a bit tricky using the Labview functions - it's not as easy straight forward C++ programming.  Will post the result of my explorations!

Cheers.
