Traditional DAQ Windows 7 (x64)

Solved!
Go to solution

I changed to Windows 7 (x64) from Windows XP, along with a new PC (needed more memory). I am programming for a PXI system with LabVIEW Real-time 2009 SP1. There is a Traditional DAQ temperature card running inside the PXI chasis. I read somewhere that Traditional DAQ is no more supported by NI. In fact, the most up-to-date driver 7.5 Beta installer shows an error message on Windows 7 (x64).

I don't want to run Trad. DAQ on Windows but on LabVIEW Real-time 2009. I rather need it for programming on my Windows host. Is there no solution other than using Windows XP?

What model is the temp card?  Any reason you can't switch to DAQmx?  I know it looks like extra work now but it's worth it, trust me.  We had the same thing here a few years ago.

I think that is not possible to use such an old driver together with an brand new windows 7 (x64) OS. If look on this page

Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy) 7.4 - Windows 2000/XP/NT - National Instruments
http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/587/lang/de

you can see that this driver was released 2005. Maybee it would be better to use the DAQmx drivers, because this drivers are supported by National Instruments unlike the traditional DAQ driver.

The model is NI 4351. Generally, I am using DAQmx as there are various modern cards inside the PXI chasis. The 4351 is the only card, I am using Trad. DAQ for.

Is it possible to use DAQmx with NI 4351? My guess: no...

I think that it is not possible to use a DAQmx driver in general for a NI 4351.

For example, in the NI-DAQmx 8.0.1 Readme, i found the following information:

Devices Restricted to Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy)

NI-DAQmx does not support the following devices. The following devices are supported only in Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy):

....

NI 4350/4351 data loggers

Do you have a PXIe slot on your chassis?  The PXIe-4353 is the suggested replacement for the PXI 4351.

It's a PXI-1042 chasis. AFAIK it's pre-PXIe.
