USB 6002 to read high differential voltage

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello,

I'm trying to use USB-6002 to measure currents (read voltage over a 0.1 ohm resistor and convert to current). The problem is that input voltage is about 16V (USB-6002's spec is +/- 10V). Would it work if I use differential voltage read (differential voltage across the resistor is small, like 50 mV)?

Or do I need to use voltage divider to lower the voltage to below 10V to make it work even with differential reading.

Thank you for the help.

Hey,

Even though the difference between the voltages you will be measuring across the resistor is small, the input range of the USB-6002 terminals still needs to be in the range of ±10V.

You will need to lower that voltage with a voltage divider in order to properly use the USB-6002 device.

Hello,

It's mean you need reading current around 160A, i think you need a current sensor, like:

I recommend using a Current Sensing Amplifier (such as a TSC103IPT) with your 0.1 Ohm resistor.  The amp will convert the differential voltage into a single ended and gain it up to fit within your voltage range.  Just apply your scale properly in DAQmx to convert back into Amps.
