USB6008 Not Recognized in Labview 7.1

I cannot see a new USB6008 portable DAQ card in LabView 7.1.

I just installed the card this morning in a laptop computer. The computer normally has a PCMCIA DAQ card installed (6036E) that is Dev1. Everything always works fine with this setup. However, I am setting up this new USB6008 card for a project for which that will be the only card installed in the machine. Therefore, I took out the 6036E card for setup purposes.

When I connected the USB6008, the Plug&Play feature recognized the card and installed it automatically.

MAX lists the card under Devices and Interfaces and says that the card is working properly.

In LabView 7.1, however, if I open DAQ Assistant, it gives me the message "No supported Devices Found", regardless of what type of measurement I tell it I want to make.

I have looked at the resources under ni.com/support/install. The one interesting item I found there said that if the LED on the DAQ card continues to blink, consult the users manual. The LED is blinking on the device; however, it did not come with a users manual, and I cannot find a users manual on the NI website.

I could not find any information on the NI discussion forum that addressed this issue.

Hello Kyle,

The USB-6008 uses the DAQmx Base driver, and is not supported by DAQmx. This means that you cannot use the DAQ Assistant to configure a task for the USB-6008/9. DAQmx Base comes with its own Configuration Utility and Examples. Please see the following links for more information on DAQmx Base:

In addition, I had to0 install NI-DAQ Base 1.5 to get my USB 6008 to work properly.

Hi Mike-

If you use a version of NI-DAQmx for Windows later than 7.5 you will be able to use your USB-6008 with NI-DAQmx rather than NI-DAQmx Base.  The most recent version of NI-DAQmx for Windows is 8.0.1.  If you are using Mac OSX or Linux you must currently use NI-DAQmx Base.

OK - maybe someone reading this post can help me with this one:

When I connect a USB6009 to my desktop computer (WinXP, LV7.1, NIDaq801), it appears in:
-MAX
-Isdaq
-mxBase Task configuration utility.

HOWEVER, then I connect a USB6008, it is only visible in the first two, and I cannot create any tasks.

Suggestions?  Firmware?  Voodoo?

A couple questions for you about how you are using these USB Devices.   Are you using the DAQmx driver or the DAQmx Base driver?  Have you used the 6008 previously?  Are you able to create tasks with the 6009?

It sounds like the firmware of your 6008 might be set for the opposite driver you are trying to use it with.  When you say it shows up in MAX, what is the category it is directly underneath?  There is an option in MAX under Tools>>NI-DAQmx Configuration>>NI-DAQmx USB Driver Selection that allows you to set the firmware on a USB device to use the DAQmx or DAQmx Base driver.  Try checking this setting to make sure you are using the correct driver.
