Hello Chris,
The Generate Code option does work with LabVIEW 7.1, so I still stand by that method. As far as using the property node, I haven't found one which will change the channel alias, which is what you are trying to do. If you do not wish to change the channels alias via Measurement and Automation Explorer, then I would recommend generating a configuration subVI using the Generate Code method and changing the channel name in LabVIEW.

Brandon B, Dennis, and Glenn,
Many thanks to all of you for all the information and suggestions and seeing it through to conclusion. The conlusion is as follows:
1. The "name to assign" input to "DAQmx Create Virtual Channel.vi" is an alias for the physical channel.
2. There is no equivalent property available through the DAQmx Channel Property Node.
3. If a DAQmx task is created in MAX and used in the program, the alias must either be set in MAX or using the "Generate Code" option that Brandon B suggested in an earlier post.
Best Regards,
Chris
