Why is Modulation Type disabled in the ELVISmx function generator when a myDAQ is connected?

The frequency generation is all done on the computer, right? So why would the Modulation Type option be disabled in the function generator if a myDAQ is connected? I would understand if the ELVIS II had a more powerful function generation chip than the myDAQ, but if the function generation is done on the computer, that wouldn't be an issue.

Hello flarn2006,

Thank you for using National Instruments Forums.

MyDAQ generates the signals via Software and not via Hardware, and this device doesn’t have the ability to choose Modulation Type, but the Elvis II has that ability. Now, those two devices use the same driver, so you can’t use the two devices at the same time, so if you need to use the Modulation Type option you must choose to use the ELVIS II.

If it does generate the signals through software, that would mean all devices using the driver would have the ability. Unless you meant to say it was generated via hardware.

Would there be any way to use the myDAQ as an FM or AM transmitter or receiver? What about the ELVIS II?

ELVIS II has a dedicated hardware signal generator so you will be able to do that with ELVIS.
