Wiring Balluff Photoelectric Sensor to NI 9411

I have the Balluff BOS 5K-PO-IX10-02 Thru Beam Sensor that I need to wire to the NI 9411.  I have the 9411 with the D Sub Connector Kit.  Can someone tell me how I'm supposed to wire the emitter and receiver?  The Emitter is wired directly to the power supply but how do you handle the receiver?  I've attached the spec sheet that came with the sensors.

It looks like you use the receiver diagram on the upper right: BN ->Vsup, Bu -> COM, Bk ->DINa (1,2,3,6,7 or 8),leave DINb open, and you may also need a resistor (a few K) from BK to COM, as shown. The input resistance of the 7411 may be good enough by itself.

I wired it as you said but I'm not sure if the output I'm receiving is correct.  The output is a varying 1 and 0, even when the sensors aren't moving.  I used the DAQ Assistant to get a quick reading and it is set-up to read from port0/line0 of the 9411.  The black wire of the receiver is connected to DI0a (1).  Both sensors are getting power as confirmed by the LED outputs of the receiver and emitter.

Use a voltmeter to see what voltage is being supplied to the 9411 as the sensor conditions vary. Once  you know the voltage out of the sensor is doing what you think it should, then you can start working on the DAQ part.

Reading the voltage at 1 and 12 I get (-1.6) volts regardless of the sensor location.  I'm using an external power supply to give the 24 volts to the sensors.  The 9411 is connected to a USB 9171.

That isn't correct, you shouldn't have a negative voltage. You must have your power connections wrong somewhere.

The blue wires from both the emitter and receiver are connected to the 24 Vdc common.  Both brown wires are connected to the 24 Vdc (+).  The black lead from the receiver is connected to channel 1 of the D-sub connector.

When I measure the voltage btwn the black wire (from the receiver) connected to terminal 1 and the common I get 24 volts.  When I move the emitter the voltage goes to 0 volts.  Should I be connecting the com to DI0b?  Is there a way to measure that change?

I would first try to measure your readings without the NI 9411.  Understand what voltage levels you are getting from the instrument when it is disconnected from teh 9411, so you have some known reference values to look for when you are connected.  Let us know how that goes.
