external current source to DAQ 6020 E(BNC)

IT is possible to connect external voltage source to DAQ 6020E(BNC) at the EXTREF  terminal.

is it possible to connect a current source at the extref or any other point to the DAQ ? the daq can only provide 5 mA but i need up to 50mA for my application . That is why i want to connect external current souce and use the DAQ to isolate it from the circuit which may cause noise/high voltages and damage my expensive constant current source.

Hi poli,

The 6020E is not designed to have a current source connected directly to it. The extref input is designed for +/- 11 volts, and is used to set the output voltage range of the AO channels externally. It does not allow the AO channels to provide more than 5 mA. This information can be found in the 6020E Specifications and the E–Series User Manual.

Also the 6020E is not able to act as a constant current source. The PCI-6704 can provide constant current up to 20 mA and the PXI-4110 and PXI-4130 are programmable power supplies that can be used as current sources.

The 6020E is not supported in Windows Vista.  The latest version on DAQ that works with your device is 7.4.4.  

Here is some additional information on the NI DAQPad-6020E.  NI recommends upgrading to the NI USB-6251 or the NI USB 6259.

max can detect the 6020 E

Hi iwanganteng,

Unfortunately the Daqpad-6020e is not supported under Windows Vista.

The Traditional NI-DAQ 7.5 Beta drivers for Windows Vista only support PCI and PXI devices. They do not work with USB, PCMCIA or Legacy devices. This information can be found here.

Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy) for Windows Vista OS

If you have to use Windows Vista I recommend looking at the two products Jordan suggested. The USB-6251 or USB-6259. These products however only work with our newer NI-DAQmx drivers and not the Traditional NI-DAQ drivers.

If you want to use your Daqpad-6020e you might consider installing Windows XP. The Daqpad-6020e is supported in XP using Traditional NI-DAQ 7.4.4
