layout of ports on NI 9205 is not as diagram in sig express which is correct?

Signal express shows two rows 0 - 18 (+ve)  and 19- 36 (-ve)
my NI9205 has them labeled as 0 - 7, 16 - 23, com, DO0, down one side
and on the other side 8 - 15, 17 - 31 + 2 channels I can't read due to plastic molding

which is correct ?

thanks

Hi Miles,

Which version of the 9205 do you have, the D-Sub connector or the Spring Terminal, as this determines the pinout. The manual for both versions is at the link below, each version is listed, so you should be able to determine your correct pinout. If you have any other problems, don't hesistate to reply.

Dan

Thanks Dan, Sorry for the delay but I could not spot the "reply" button on the forum page due to my colour settings

Ref NI 9205
Its a D sub type connector, however after some false starts I "stumbled" across the "device pin outs" section of Measurement and automation software and it now makes sense. with the minor exception that my card uses ACH prefix rather than AI

I do however have another Q if you would be willing to assist, regarding my DIO
NI9401 card

I'm trying to set it up to give me a 5v feed to drive a DO mag pick up for position sensing, and I have navigated through to the "test pannel" in "Measurement and automation" to get to the point where I can indeed set the card up to give ch1 - 7 as 0-5v input and ch 8-14 for a 5v constant out.
however;
1) these setting do not appear to "save", and I've now fried to pick ups this way
if I revisit the dialog box they have been reset to defaults
2) further when I try to run an aquistion I get the following errors

relating to the NI9401 i get
Error -200303 occurred at DAQ Assistant

Possible Reason(s):

Measurements: External sample clock source must be specified for this application.
relating to the
NI9705 i get
Error -200279 occurred at DAQ Assistant

Possible Reason(s):

Measurements: Attempted to read samples that are no longer available. The requested sample was previously available, but has since been overwritten.

Increasing the buffer size, reading the data more frequently, or specifying a fixed number of samples to read instead of reading all available samples might correct the problem.

Property: RelativeTo
Corresponding Value: Current Read Position

Property: Offset
Corresponding Value:

do you have any ideas? I'm trying to read 9 voltages ...............

as you can probably guess I am no DAQ expert

kind regards
Miles

Hi,

The test panel window is used for testing only. It does not offer a way to configure the DIO lines of a device permanently so they are set up for a particular application. Some devices do offer a programmable powerup state option, but unfortunately the 9401 does not. You will therefore need to set this up within your program.

The clock source error you are getting is because the digital IO doesn't have a built in clock source and you will need to use an external counter or similar device to generate a clock signal for your 9401.

The buffer error is happening because you are not reading data from the buffer fast enough, so as stated in the error dialog, you will need to either read from the buffer more frequently, or change you aquisition mode, so that you are acquiring a fixed amount of samples instead of reading the entire buffer. This will mean that the buffer has not been overwritten before you read data from it.

Regards,

Dan
