networked USB hub

I have purchased a Belkin F5L009 network USB hub, which allows connection to USB devices through the network (in my case wired)

I have some USB6008 modules which I had hoped to use this hub with, to avoid purchasing another dedicated PC for this application.

The device shows up fine in Belkins control centre without any warnings, however I can't see it through MAX or my own applications.

I read a post from about 1 year ago using wireless hubs, but has anyone else any experience or knowledge on the use of these hubs with the NI DAQ's?

Hi Dave,

I've looked into this issue internally for you to find out a bit more about support for this kind of device. Unfortunately, we haven't yet been able to find a cable-free hub that will conform to the required USB standards and therefore no hub will definitely give full performance when used with USB DAQ. Some people have had limited success with this kind of setup in the past, but results vary and we have not found anything reliable as part of our own testing.

If the USB device works properly when connected directly to your computer, then our hardware and software is configured correctly. Beyond this, we can't recommend or support any hardware to perform that task. You'll need to use extension cables or a remote computer as you mentioned.

Sorry that we can't be of more help on this issue!

Best regards,
Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks very much for looking into it.

I figured it wasn't going to work properly or reliably, so have ordered another PC anyway.

In the future when these type of hubs work it will be a good method of reducing cost in some situations.

Best regards,

Dave
